The Kids in Action Clubhouse will launch in September of 2008. It will be located on the second floor of the R.W. Tegler Youth Centre (3805 118 Avenue) and will be open tuesday to friday 3:00-7:30
and Saturday 9:00-5:00.
What is it?
The Clubhouse will be an after-school drop in for elementary aged children (6-12). The environment will be energetic and exciting, it will be fast paced and unique, structured and unstructured all at once. It will give the kids an opportunity to choose from the pre-planned events of the evening, and to participate in them as a group or an individual. It is a time when the children who come will dictate (obviously with in reason) the tone and direction of the time.
Why?
We wanted to provide a place for kids of the Abottsfield area to just have fun, and be kids in a safe,and positive environment. This will be their space, their own tree fort in the middle of the city. Accompanying the fun times will be an opportunity for positive relationships to be formed between staff and kids and between peers, which we feel is the most integral part of this new project.
