Equipped with 3 state for the art iMac’s, and a slick high end video camera, the TMAC (Tegler Media Arts Centre) provides exciting opportunities for youth to create, experiment, and learn. Located on the second floor of the RW. Tegler Centre (3805-118 avenue) The tmac is a place for youth to be challenged and succeed in a creative environment.
The tMac was born out of the desire to give the kids of the Beverly area the opportunity to create in an environment that was not readily available to them. While these iMac’s are amazing tools, they are not a fixture of every house hold or elementary school. It is a blessing that we have been able to purchase these tools and allow the children of our community and city to have the opportunity to create and learn with them.
Currently the children have an opportunity to work in a both a structured time and an unstructured time with the computers. Everyday their is a drop in time, which enables the children to explore and experiment with the computers. With many of the children never having the opportunity to use an imac before often they just want to play on them to find something that they would be interested in knowing more about. Every child has the opportunity to enroll in specialized programs to help to better their skills. The programs include but are not limited to: Garage Band (recording and creating beats), Video (creating and editing video), Basic Skills (pages, word, excel, numbers, email, etc.), Web Design (learning how to create and maintain web sites).
All of our programs base around that concept of a club. Each program puts an emphasis not only on the individual excelling, but also for the team as a whole to be working together to grow and create. Long term goals of this program are to have these clubs creating content for the HYMN website, helping to maintain the website, and creating and recording their own music.
