Brightwood Ranch

We would love to have you volunteer!!

Each summer, more than 600 underprivileged children attend Brightwood Ranch Camp for a week long summer camp. Their days are filled with outdoor activities, recreation, games, and lessons about God. These children are learning important life skills and developing lasting friendships.

Camps run throughout the summer and each week, 30 to 40 volunteers are needed. You can volunteer for one or more weeks. You can sign up to be a counselor, help in the kitchen, or assist with activities.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

JUNIOR COUNSELORS July and August for 1 week to 2 months

Ministry Description: To assist in leading and guiding camper in such a way that they will have an opportunity to receive Christ and/or grow in their Christian life, to assist in being responsible for the campers’ safety and hygiene, to help teach assigned activities, to help lead cabin Bible studies and devotions and participate in chapel services.

KITCHEN HELPERS July and August for 1 week to 2 months

Ministry Description: To assist in preparing meals, to help in setting tables, doing dishes, preparing vegetables and fruits and other duties as needed, to be involved in the camp chapels and activities as time allows.

ASSISTANT WRANGLERS July and August for 1 week to 2 months

Ministry Description: To assist in caring for the horses, to assist in planning and implementing the program for the summer camps, to operate public trail rides, to assist in maintaining the horsemanship area, to participate in camp chapels and other camp activities.

CAMP GRANDPARENTS.

- spend time with kids who need a bit of extra time (happens lots with our kids)

- lots of anger, aggression, runaways, they just need someone to love them.

- listen to Bible verses for scripture memory

- take kids to the hospital if needed

- hang out with kids at crafts, and other activities

- sit with kids during chapel

- town trips, help in kitchen, or maintenance,

Kids in Action

Kids in Action is always looking for volunteers to help with the Implementation of program, and the loving of the KIA Kids.

There are 4 Specific opportunities you can be involved:

After School Program

Who:

• Anyone that has experience with children, or an interest in loving and supporting kids of the Edmonton community.
• Must be open to a faith based environment as we are a Christian program.
• Must meet the requirements of a Hope Mission volunteer (complete application form, clean criminal record check, clean child welfare check)
• Must be reliable, and preferably consistent (helps to form solid relationships with staff and kids)

What:

Helping to facilitate the after school program
These activities may include:
• Serving Supper
• Supervising Children
• Helping with set up
• Teaching lessons
• Facilitating games
• Acting in skits
• Helping with clean up.

Where:
In one of our schools: Abott, Rundle, Rj Scott, Horse Hill, Sifton, Balwin, Belvedere, Evansdale, Lee Ridge, and Norwood.

When:
*Program runs from From 3:00 till 4:00 on one of Monday-Friday.

*times vary from school to school.

We would like volunteers to be committed to participate from 2:30-5:30 (these times include clean up and staff meeting)

To have the opportunity to sew positives into the lives of those who will make up the faces of the future of our communities.

Every volunteer we have lowers our ratio of kids to staff, which will enable the relationships to be all the more intimate.

Lunch Program
(The lunch program is a modified after school program)

Who:
• Anyone that has experience with children, or an interest in loving and supporting kids of the Edmonton community.
• Must be open to a faith based environment as we are a Christian program.
• Must meet the requirements of a Hope Mission volunteer (complete application form, clean criminal record check, clean child welfare check)
• Must be reliable, and preferably consistent (helps to form solid relationships with staff and kids)

What:
• Helping to facilitate the lunch program
• These activities may include:
• Supervising Children
• Helping with set up
• Teaching lessons
• Facilitating games
• Acting in skits
• Helping with clean up.

Where:
In one of our Lunch Program schools: Abott, Rundle, Horse Hill, Balwin, Lee Ridge

When:
*Program runs from From approx. 11:30-12:30 .
*times vary from school to school.

• Supervising Children

Where:
The RW. Teglar Centre, located at 3805 118 avenue.

When: Program runs July 1- August 29, 2008
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday there are two times to choose from:
• 11:00-1:00- Core Program (this program will be very comparable to the after school program) (link to afteschool program)
• 2:00-4:00-Flex (This program will be more of a structured drop in time, full of games, crafts, skits, and other fun)
• Wednesday
• 1:00-3:00- Into the Wild (a time of crazy messy games)

Special Events

Who:
• Anyone that has experience with children, or an interest in loving and supporting kids of the Edmonton community.
• Must be open to a faith based environment as we are a Christian program.

• Must be reliable
• Anyone who wants to be involved but is not able to commit the time necessary or volunteer the hours necessary for our other programs.

What:
Helping to facilitate special events that happen through out the year, which may include:
• Supervising Children
• Helping with set up
• Facilitating games
• Helping with clean up.
• Serving food
• Delivering packages to families
• Building relationships with community families.

Where:
Varies depending upon the event.

When:
Events will be advertised as they are confirmed.

R.W.Tegler

Skatepark

Who:

• If you have a passion for skateboarding, and teaching skateboarding.

What:
Helping to supervise the Skatepark
These activities may include:

• Supervising Youth in a Skateboarding environment
• Enforcing the rules of the park (helmets on, knee pads, elbow pads etc.)
• Building relationships
• Helping with clean up.
• Skateboarding (learning to skateboard)

Friday: 5:00-8:00

Who:
• Anyone that has experience with youth, or an interest in loving and supporting youth of the Edmonton community.

• If you have a passion for creating music, video, or websites and would enjoy teaching youth.

What:
Helping to facilitate special events that happen through out the year, which may include:
• Supervising Youth
• Building relationships
• Helping to teach lesson of the day
• Supporting youth in the lesson of the day
• Helping with clean up.
• Playing games with youth.
